Key stakeholders from the public and private sectors have called for the deepening of ongoing economic reforms to sustain the gains recorded in recent months and ensure long-term stability and growth.

The appeal was made on Friday during the National Economic Summit in Abuja, where participants reviewed the country’s economic performance and identified areas for improvement. They emphasised the need for consistent policy implementation, improved fiscal discipline, and greater private sector involvement.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, acknowledged the progress made so far and urged all stakeholders to support the government’s reform agenda. “We have made significant gains, but we must not rest on our oars. Sustained reforms are necessary to consolidate these gains and build a more resilient economy,” Edun stated.

Participants highlighted the importance of addressing structural issues such as infrastructure deficits, skills gaps, and regulatory bottlenecks. They also called for stronger collaboration between the government and the private sector to drive investment and job creation.

The Organised Private Sector (OPS) pledged its support for the reforms, urging the government to maintain a stable policy environment and address the high cost of doing business. They also advocated for improved access to credit and the removal of multiple taxation.

Experts at the summit agreed that Nigeria’s economic gains can only be sustained through deliberate and consistent reforms that prioritise diversification, human capital development, and good governance. They called for the establishment of a monitoring and evaluation framework to track the impact of reform initiatives.

The National Economic Summit ended with a commitment from all stakeholders to work together towards achieving sustainable economic growth and improving the living standards of Nigerians. The government has assured that it will continue to engage with relevant parties to ensure the successful implementation of the reform agenda.
