STAY IN ADC, GBAJABIAMILA URGES KOGI REP TO RESIST DEFECTING TO APC

The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged the member representing Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency in Kogi State, Leke Abejide, to remain in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and strengthen his political base instead of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gbajabiamila made the remarks during a reception held in honour of Abejide’s 20th wedding anniversary and his wife’s 50th birthday.

In a viral video of the event shared by Channels Television, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives described Abejide as a committed and resilient politician who should not abandon the platform he helped build.

He said Abejide should focus on consolidating his influence within the ADC and resist pressure to defect to other parties.

Gbajabiamila said, “Honourable Abejide, I know you to be a committed party man. I know you to be a fighter. I know you to be someone who does not like to be cheated. So please, my charge to you is to stay in that same ADC. Fight them. Scatter them. Hold on to your party, ADC. Do not abandon them.”

He further encouraged the lawmaker to strengthen his political structure, remain focused on securing re-election on the ADC platform, and bring more allies into his camp.

Gbajabiamila also advised him not to allow external pressure or internal party disagreements to push him into abandoning what he has built politically over time.

The comments come amid ongoing internal disputes within the ADC. Recently, the party’s National Working Committee, led by David Mark, announced the expulsion of Abejide and some others over alleged anti-party activities, a decision that has since triggered legal and political contestation.

Abejide is currently challenging aspects of the party leadership structure in court, while factional tensions continue within the ADC.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
