STUDENT FAKES OWN KIDNAPPING, DEMANDS N50M RANSOM FROM MOTHER
An 18-year-old student of the College of Health in Kwamba, Suleja, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly staging his own abduction in a plot to extort N50 million from his mother.
The student, identified as Moses Amarks, was said to have collaborated with friends to carry out the hoax, intending to trick his parents into paying a ransom.
Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun revealed that the case was reported to the Maje Police Division on August 4, 2025, after the victim’s mother received a threatening call from a hidden number claiming her son had been kidnapped.
“On August 4, 2025, a report was lodged at the Maje Division following a hidden-call alert to a woman that her son, Moses Amarks, had been kidnapped, with the caller demanding N50 million,” Abiodun stated.
Following investigations, police operatives tracked Moses to the Zuba motor park in Abuja, where he was arrested. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to planning the fake kidnapping with 22-year-old Emmanuel Moses, a former student of the same institution.
Emmanuel was said to have reached out to his brother, Jetro, based in Kaduna State, who arranged a hideout for them in Karji village, Sabon-Tasha.
The pair reportedly spent six days in hiding before Moses decided to reappear when the ransom failed to come through.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend Jetro.
