SUPER EAGLES STRIKER KELECHI IHEANACHO EXPRESSES DELIGHT AND DETERMINATION AFTER SETTING ALL-TIME TURKISH FOOTBALL SCORING STREAK RECORD
Bursaspor forward vows to sustain prolific form following historical milestone of scoring in 10 consecutive league matches, surpassing legendary Turkish benchmarks
Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed his gratitude and determination to sustain his fine form after breaking a long-standing scoring record in Turkish football history.
The 29-year-old Super Eagles striker achieved the feat during Bursaspor's 3-0 away victory over Muğlaspor, where he scored a second-half brace and delivered an assist for Hüseyin Maldar to complete the scoring.
The performance extended Iheanacho's scoring run to 10 consecutive league matches, taking his tally for Bursaspor to 14 goals and three assists in just 10 appearances this season.
By finding the net for a 10th straight game, Iheanacho officially surpassed the historical record of nine consecutive scoring matches previously shared by Turkish legends Metin Oktay and Saffet Sancaklı. He had earlier surpassed Bursaspor's individual club record of eight games set by Fernandão during the 2014–15 campaign.
Reacting to the achievement in post-match comments, Iheanacho highlighted his team's collective performance and expressed delight over the away victory, pledging to keep working hard to maintain his scoring momentum.
"It was a great performance, especially in the second half. It was difficult in the first half, but we controlled the game very well in the second half and scored the goals," Iheanacho told beIN SPORTS.
"We're happy to win. They are a strong side, and we won away from home today, so we're really happy."
The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker joined Bursaspor earlier in the season and has rapidly re-established himself as one of the most lethal forwards in Turkish football, anchoring his side's promotion push.
