Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a commanding 3-1 victory over long-time rivals, the Black Queens of Ghana, in a pre-WAFCON friendly match held on Sunday in Casablanca.

Ghana threatened first in the 17th minute, but Doris Boaduwaa’s low strike missed the target.

Nigeria broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Chiwendu Ihezuo’s deflected shot found the back of the net. Just before halftime, the Falcons were awarded a penalty, calmly converted by star striker Asisat Oshoala to double the lead.

Five minutes into the second half, team captain Rasheedat Ajibade made it 3-0 with a composed finish. Ghana appeared to reduce the deficit in the 55th minute through Evelyn Badu, but her effort was disallowed for offside.

Head coach Justine Madugu made a triple substitution in the 56th minute, bringing on Ifeoma Onumonu, Sikiratu Isah, and Esther Okoronkwo for Oshoala, Osinachi Ohale, and Ihezuo.

Despite creating more chances, the Super Falcons couldn’t add to their tally. Ghana eventually pulled one back in the 88th minute via a penalty converted by Alice Kusi.

Both teams now turn their focus to the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with Nigeria set to face Tunisia in their opening match next Sunday.
