SUPER FALCONS’ UK TRAINING TOUR COLLAPSES AFTER JAMAICA FRIENDLY CANCELLATION

Plans for the Super Falcons of Nigeria to embark on a training tour of the United Kingdom have fallen through after a scheduled international friendly against Jamaica’s women’s national team was cancelled.

The tour, initially set for May 23 to 28, was part of preparations by the Nigeria women's national football team ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Friendly Match Cancellation Halts Entire Tour

According to reports cited by Savid News via Daily Post, the planned friendly against the Jamaica women's national football team was called off due to administrative challenges affecting the Caribbean side.

The cancellation ultimately led to the scrapping of the entire UK training programme, which was expected to provide the African champions with valuable match practice and tactical preparation.

The tour was designed to help the Super Falcons fine-tune their squad ahead of major international competitions, including WAFCON 2026.

Another Setback in Super Falcons’ Preparation

This latest disruption adds to a series of cancelled fixtures for the Nigerian team. Earlier in April, the Cape Verde women's national football team reportedly withdrew from a planned double-header friendly against the Super Falcons, leaving the squad without competitive action during that international window.

With no alternative fixtures confirmed, Nigeria will now wait for the next FIFA-sanctioned women’s international window in June to arrange fresh matches.

Preparation for WAFCON 2026 Continues

The Super Falcons, coached by Justine Madugu, were last in action in March, where they secured a 3–1 away victory over the Cameroon women's national football team in Yaoundé.

The team is currently preparing to defend their title at the 2026 WAFCON tournament in Morocco, scheduled for July. The competition will also serve as a qualifying pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Despite the recent setbacks in scheduling friendlies, the Super Falcons are expected to regroup and continue their preparations once new international fixtures are confirmed.
