Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that Nigeria’s women’s national football team is yet to receive the $100,000 cash gift promised to them by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The pledge was made earlier this year when Tinubu hosted the team at a reception following their victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. Along with the money, the players and coaches were also promised houses and national honours.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade said none of the promises had been fulfilled so far.

“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid. They have not paid; all the promises, we have not received anything,” she said.

Just a week after the Falcons’ reception, the president made a similar pledge to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, rewarding them for their achievements as well.

Fans and sports stakeholders are now waiting to see if these promises will be honoured, with many calling for timely fulfillment of rewards to boost morale and encourage future victories.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
