A new survey has revealed that residents of Osun State are increasingly frustrated with the Federal Government and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the continued seizure of local government allocations.

The poll, conducted by Geopolitical Survey International (GSI) between August 1 and 5, 2025, sampled 10,000 respondents across nine federal constituencies. Participants were drawn from towns including Osogbo, Ile Ife, Iwo, Ila Orangun, Ikirun, Ilesa, Ede, Ejigbo, Ikire, Iragbiji, and several others.

According to the findings, a large majority of residents view the seizure as illegal, unconstitutional, and harmful to grassroots development. The study also showed that women are the hardest hit, with 84 per cent of respondents saying women bear the heaviest burden of the crisis. Only 10 per cent pointed to men as most affected, while six per cent were undecided.

On who is responsible, 86 per cent blamed the Federal Government, 11 per cent pointed at the state government, while three per cent expressed no clear opinion.

The political impact was also striking. The report revealed that:

87 per cent vowed to vote against the APC in future elections.

85 per cent said they would support the PDP if elections were held today.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) recorded just two per cent support.

Dr. Adeyemo Adeyefa, lead consultant for GSI, explained that the survey highlights “solid home support for the Osun State Government in its clash with the Federal Government” and reflects the growing anger among residents against the APC.

He added that the findings suggest the APC’s stance on LG funds may have backfired, as it has not only deepened hardship for women in Osun but also boosted the popularity of the PDP. According to him, PDP’s support in the state has jumped from 65 per cent three months ago to nearly 85 per cent by August.

The study, which is the fifth carried out by GSI since January, shows a clear trend of rising dissatisfaction and shifting political loyalties in Osun State.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
