TAX REVENUE VITAL FOR INFRASTRUCTURE DEVT – OGIRS
The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has emphasised the critical role of tax revenue in funding infrastructure development and delivering public services across the state.
OGIRS Executive Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Adesina, made the assertion during a sensitisation programme for taxpayers in Abeokuta, stressing that sustained revenue generation is essential for executing major projects in roads, healthcare, education, and water supply. “Every kobo paid as tax contributes directly to the development we all desire,” he said.
Adesina urged residents and businesses to fulfil their tax obligations voluntarily, highlighting recent improvements in service delivery and the introduction of digital payment platforms to make compliance easier and more transparent. The agency has intensified enforcement against defaulters while offering amnesty windows for late payers.
Stakeholders at the event commended OGIRS for its reforms and called for continued public education on the importance of taxation. The state government has linked increased Internally Generated Revenue to accelerated infrastructure projects in recent years.
OGIRS pledged to maintain transparency and accountability in revenue utilisation to sustain public trust and encourage wider compliance.
