TCN DENIES GRID CONSTRAINTS CLAIMS, INSISTS NATIONAL POWER NETWORK IS STABLE
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has rejected recent claims suggesting that the national electricity transmission grid is facing major constraints, insisting that the system remains stable and capable of handling current power load levels.
TCN stated that reports alleging widespread grid limitations were misleading and did not reflect the true state of the national transmission infrastructure. According to the agency, ongoing monitoring and operational data indicate that the grid continues to function within safe operational limits.
The company explained that while occasional fluctuations may occur due to routine maintenance, generation variations, or localized faults, these do not amount to systemic grid constraints. It added that such incidents are normal in a dynamic power system and are promptly managed by system operators to prevent widespread disruption.
TCN also emphasized ongoing investments in transmission infrastructure aimed at expanding capacity, improving reliability, and reducing bottlenecks across key corridors of the national grid. These include the construction of new substations, rehabilitation of existing facilities, and upgrades to transmission lines.
Energy sector analysts note that Nigeria’s power sector continues to face challenges across generation, transmission, and distribution segments, but improvements in grid management and infrastructure upgrades have helped stabilize supply in recent periods.
The agency urged stakeholders and the public to rely on verified information when discussing the state of the national grid, warning that misinformation could create unnecessary panic among electricity consumers and investors in the sector.
TCN reaffirmed its commitment to delivering efficient and reliable transmission services, stating that it will continue working with generation companies, distribution firms, and regulators to strengthen the overall performance of the power sector.
As Nigeria continues efforts to improve electricity supply, the stability of the transmission network remains a key focus area for ongoing reforms and investments.
