Telecom Namibia has admitted that customers have been experiencing network difficulties across the country and has assured the public that a comprehensive modernisation programme is underway to fix the problems.

The company’s management acknowledged persistent issues including dropped calls, slow internet speeds, and unstable connections, especially in some urban and rural areas. These challenges have caused frustration among many Namibians who rely on mobile services for business, education, and daily communication.

In a statement released on Thursday, Telecom Namibia said it is investing heavily in upgrading its infrastructure to improve service quality. The modernisation programme includes the expansion of 4G and 5G networks, replacement of outdated equipment, and strengthening of fibre optic connectivity.

The company explained that the current difficulties are partly due to ageing infrastructure and rapid growth in data demand. However, it assured customers that significant progress is being made and improvements will be noticed in the coming months.

Telecom Namibia’s Chief Executive Officer said the company is committed to providing reliable and affordable services to all Namibians. He appealed for patience from customers as the upgrades continue, noting that some areas may experience temporary disruptions during the transition.

Many residents have welcomed the announcement but are calling for faster results, especially in rural communities where connectivity remains a major challenge. Business owners have also urged the company to communicate more clearly about timelines for improvements in different regions.

Telecom Namibia is the country’s leading telecommunications provider. Like many operators across Africa, it is facing pressure to modernise its network to meet rising demand for high-speed internet and digital services.

The company has encouraged customers to report specific network issues through its official channels so they can be addressed during the ongoing modernisation exercise. Telecom Namibia says it remains focused on delivering better service as it works towards a more reliable network for all Namibians.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
