Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has revealed that she has surpassed her own expectations in the music industry.

The Love Me Jeje singer shared this during a recent fan interaction on X.

When a fan asked, “What are you currently looking forward to? Also, would you say you’ve achieved all of your dreams prior to stardom?”

Tems responded: “I’m looking forward to whatever the Lord has in store, and honestly, I’ve achieved beyond my dreams from when I had a 9-5.”

Tems began her music career after leaving her job as a digital marketer in January 2018, releasing her debut single, Mr Rabel, later that year. While the song gained some attention, she rose to international fame after featuring on Wizkid’s 2020 hit Essence, which reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 following a remix with Justin Bieber.

In 2023, she became the first female Afrobeats artist to win a Grammy when her collaboration with Future and Drake, Wait For U, took home the Best Melodic Rap Performance award at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

In 2025, Tems won the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, making her the only Nigerian artist with multiple Grammys. She has also earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for co-writing Rihanna’s Lift Me Up.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
