TEMS OVERTAKES TYLA AS AFRICAN ARTIST WITH HIGHEST MONTHLY SPOTIFY LISTENERS
Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has surpassed South Africa’s Tyla to become the African artist with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify.
The “Love Me Jeje” star recently reached 38.3 million monthly listeners on the platform, edging past Tyla’s 38.2 million. Her rise has been driven by a wave of new releases and high-profile collaborations, including “What You Need” (Colour version), “Bounce Road Blues” with J. Cole and Future, as well as the widely acclaimed joint track “Raindance” with Dave, which continues to gain strong traction.
With her current momentum, Tems is now on course to challenge and potentially surpass the all-time record of 40 million monthly listeners previously set by Tyla.
She also maintains her position as the most-streamed female African artist on Spotify, boasting over 4.7 billion streams across all credits.
