In a significant development in Nigeria's fight against terrorism, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, disclosed on Friday that notorious terror kingpin Bello Turji has expressed his willingness to surrender.

The declaration follows a series of successful military operations that have decimated Turji's network. His second-in-command and several of his top lieutenants have been neutralized in recent weeks, leaving him with dwindling support. According to General Musa, Turji has been forced to release many of his remaining fighters, signaling his weakening grip on power.

“They [terrorists] are within the communities; the people know them,” General Musa explained during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today. “But I can tell you, we have taken out his second in command, we have taken out most of his lieutenants. In fact, he is forced now to release most of the people under him. Recently, he is beginning to say that he doesn’t want anything; he is ready to surrender.”

Despite Turji's reported willingness to lay down arms, General Musa emphasized that the military remains resolute in its mission to eliminate all individuals who have perpetrated violence against innocent Nigerians.

“We want to take everybody out. Anybody who has killed should go. People like him should not be allowed to stay,” the Defence Chief stated firmly.

The military's unrelenting operations have recently yielded significant results. According to a statement by Defence Director Edward Buba, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji neutralized Turji's second-in-command, Aminu Kanawa, along with several key allies, including Dosso (Turji's younger brother) and Danbokolo (one of his closest associates).

In addition, the military confirmed the elimination of numerous commanders loyal to Turji, including Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe. Over 24 terrorists fleeing Turji's camp in Sokoto and Zamfara states were also neutralized in coordinated operations.

These decisive actions underscore the military's commitment to dismantling terror networks and restoring peace to affected regions. While Turji's reported intention to surrender could mark a turning point, the Defence Chief's remarks highlight that justice remains a priority for those who have caused suffering to innocent citizens.
