THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COLLABORATES WITH CREATIVE PARK LTD. ON A 30-HECTARE CREATIVE CITY PROJECT IN ABUJA.
The Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy (FMACTCe) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Creative Park Ltd. to develop a creative park in Idu, Abuja.
The 30-hectare Creative City in Abuja aims to revolutionize Nigeria’s creative and cultural industries. The MoU was signed on Thursday in Abuja by Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, and Mr. Bayo Omoboriowo, CEO of Creative Park Ltd. Musawa explained that the MoU would establish a framework for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) intended to drive economic diversification, empower creative talent, and enhance cultural tourism. She highlighted that the Creative Park, envisioned as a world-class hub, would provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, training, and investment opportunities, positioning Nigeria as a global leader in the creative economy. The Minister also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to creating an environment that supports the growth of the creative sector. “Today is a day I’m incredibly proud of because I can see President Tinubu’s vision coming to life. Being Nigerian is one of the greatest honors of my life," she said. “The vision of President Bola Tinubu is not just about building the creative industry; it’s about empowering future generations.” “When you arrive in Nigeria, you immediately feel a unique energy. We are a remarkable people, and it is our content and creativity that make us stand out,” she remarked. The Minister further emphasized that the creative industry holds the most powerful means of communication, with the capacity to reach and empower Nigerians from all socio-economic backgrounds. “Not every Nigerian can become a lawyer, benefit from the oil wealth, or attend Ivy League schools. “But every Nigerian, whether from a rural or urban area, has the potential to create content on their phone, become an influencer, or showcase their cultural identity.” “This industry has the power to reshape Nigeria’s image and elevate the country on the global stage,” she stated.
She also praised Omoboriowo, the former official photographer to President Muhammadu Buhari, for his dedication to the creative sector and his commitment to national progress.
“This PPP is in trusted hands, as it’s led by individuals who truly care about the creative industry and are deeply rooted within it,” Musawa added.
“This park will embody Nigeria’s vision as Africa’s leading creative and cultural hub.”
Omoboriowo, in his comments, referred to the initiative as a transformative step toward unlocking Nigeria’s creative potential. “Through the Abuja Creativity City, we are laying the groundwork for a flourishing ecosystem where creativity meets opportunity, where ideas evolve into industries, and where culture becomes a driver of economic growth.” “This 30-hectare hub will be a space for artists, designers, entrepreneurs, and cultural practitioners to come together, innovate, and make a lasting impact.” “More importantly, it will serve as a catalyst for job creation and poverty reduction, addressing some of Nigeria's most pressing socio-economic challenges.” “This initiative is not solely about infrastructure and investment; it’s about the people—empowering Nigeria’s creative talent, preserving our cultural heritage, and tapping into the vast potential within our creative economy,” he added.
Omoboriowo explained that the partnership brings together the government, private sector, international development organizations, and other stakeholders who share a vision for a bold, innovative, and globally competitive creative Africa. “Under this agreement, the Ministry will offer policy support, facilitate access to financing, and coordinate inter-agency collaboration to ensure smooth project execution. “Creative Park Ltd. will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and operation of the Creative City, working closely with private investors to ensure its long-term sustainability.”
“The MoU, effective for an initial five-year period, aligns with the Federal Government’s strategy to leverage the creative economy as a key driver of national development,” Omoboriowo explained.
This collaboration is expected to create jobs, support local content production, and enhance Nigeria’s global presence in the creative sector. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
