Dr. Ezinwa Ezuruike, the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Abia, expressed the association's appreciation to Governor Alex Otti for approving a 100% increase in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure for doctors employed by the state.

Ezuruike highlighted that this move demonstrated Otti's dedication to improving the health sector and supporting the welfare of healthcare professionals in Abia. He also noted that the landmark decision, announced on April 29, had successfully addressed the long-standing issue of pay equality for state-employed doctors.

“By aligning Abia’s medical salary structure with the federal CONMESS, the governor has once again demonstrated visionary leadership and a deep appreciation of the sacrifices and critical contributions of healthcare workers,” he said.

The NMA also expressed appreciation for the approval to hire 771 new healthcare workers in different professional fields across the state.

The statement read:

“This strategic investment in human resources for health is a bold and timely step towards revitalising our state’s health system. “As an association, we reaffirm the unwavering commitment of our members to delivering quality healthcare services across the state.

“We see this gesture not just as a fulfilment of a promise but as a call to renewed dedication and excellence in our service to the good people of Abia.”

The group also extended its gratitude to Prof. Enoch Uche, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Azodo, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, and other stakeholders for their roles in achieving this milestone.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
