THOMAS FRANK EXPLAINS TOTTENHAM’S UEFA SUPER CUP DEFEAT TO PSG
Tottenham Hotspur manager, Thomas Frank, has reflected on his side’s 4-3 penalty shootout loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night, pointing to a shift in momentum as the turning point.
Spurs looked on course for victory after goals from Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero put them 2-0 up for more than 80 minutes. But late strikes from Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos brought PSG level, forcing penalties.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Frank praised his team’s performance despite the heartbreak.
“I think we played a very good game against one of the best teams in the world, maybe the best at this moment in time. We had them exactly where we wanted them for 80-something minutes until the 2-1 goal, then of course the momentum shifted a little bit,” he said.
Frank added that, once the game went to penalties, the result was “a flip of the coin.”
The Spurs boss said there was plenty to be proud of, crediting the team, players, club, and fans for their efforts.
Tottenham will now turn their attention to the Premier League opener against Burnley as they aim to start their domestic campaign on a strong note.
