TINUBU, APC GOVERNORS MOVE TO RESOLVE CAMPAIGN LIST CRISIS
President Bola Tinubu has held talks with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress as the ruling party moves to address the controversy surrounding its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, formed part of a series of consultations aimed at resolving concerns raised after the campaign council list was released.
The list generated criticism over the inclusion of some controversial party figures and allegations that key stakeholders were not adequately consulted during its preparation.
Party sources said the consultations were focused on reviewing the concerns and making adjustments where necessary.
According to the report, the discussions began on Wednesday and continued on Thursday after an earlier meeting could not be concluded.
Sources close to the party said the original list had been removed from the APC’s social media platform, with a revised version expected after the President considers the proposed changes.
The campaign council, chaired by President Tinubu, includes Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as vice chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was listed as Secretary.
The expanded council contains 223 entries and includes several directorates covering areas such as finance, education, manufacturing, grassroots mobilisation, digital operations and welfare.
Presidential spokesman Sunday Dare had earlier said the campaign structure was not yet complete and that adjustments could still be made.
He explained that additional subcommittees would be constituted, creating room for more party members and stakeholders to participate.
The ongoing consultations also come as the APC considers ways to strengthen its political outreach and social intervention efforts ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party is expected to finalise changes to the campaign council list after the conclusion of the consultations among the President, governors and other party leaders.
