TINUBU APPOINTS NECO, NBTE CHAIRMEN, NAMES POLY RECTOR, RENEWS LIBRARY DG TENURE
President Bola Tinubu has approved fresh appointments across major education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Library of Nigeria.
The appointments were announced on Wednesday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as part of efforts to strengthen institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education.
Tinubu appointed Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO, while Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi remains Registrar of the examination body.
He also named Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman of NBTE, while Prof. Idris Bugaje had earlier been reappointed as Executive Secretary of the board for a second and final five-year term.
In the polytechnic sector, the President appointed Dr Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a single five-year term.
Binfa succeeds the pioneer rector, Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026.
Before his appointment, Binfa served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and previously lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
Tinubu also renewed the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term.
Anunobi, first appointed in September 2021, has overseen several reforms aimed at transforming the National Library into a modern, technology-driven institution.
These reforms include the creation of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
The Presidency said Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and former NBTE chairman, brings extensive experience in educational administration.
It added that Salako, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, also brings valuable leadership experience.
According to the statement, renewing Anunobi’s tenure will help ensure continuity of reforms and support completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
