Tinubu Approves 22 New Appointments To Strengthen Federal Institutions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 22 individuals to lead various federal agencies and commissions, as part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen public institutions and advance governance reforms across the country.

The announcement was made on Saturday through the verified X handle of the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The new appointments span key sectors including education, agriculture, energy, social development, and public administration.

 

Among those appointed are several prominent political figures. Former Senate President Ken Nnamani was named Chairman of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, while former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, was appointed Chairman of the National Merit Awards Committee. Former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema was appointed Chairman of the Federal Capital Development Authority, and former Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu was named Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Sports. Labour leader Isa Aremu was appointed Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies.

In the agricultural sector, Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani from Zamfara State was appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation. He will be supported by Abubakar Umar Jarengol from Adamawa State as Executive Director (Operations/Technical), and Babaranti Ayandayo Rasheed from Osun State as Executive Director (Finance and Administration). Abubakar Adamu from Benue State was named Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria. The Nigeria–Sao Tome Joint Development Authority will now be led by Mohammed Lawal Ibrahim from Kogi State and Abdullahi Mohammed from Katsina State as Executive Directors.

 

In the education and social sectors, Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir from Borno State was appointed Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development, and Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe from Ondo State was named Director-General of the National Senior Citizens Centre. Dr. Segun Aina from Osun State was appointed Director-General of the Academic Staff College of Nigeria, while Dr. Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu from Kaduna State was named Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-formal Education.

Senator Jalo Zarami from Yobe State and Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu from Nasarawa State were appointed Federal Commissioners at the National Population Commission. From Kano State, Hamza Ibrahim Baba was appointed National Program Manager of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme. Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura from Zamfara State will now serve as Director-General of the Centre for Citizenship and Leadership Training, while Senator Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya from Katsina State has been named Chairman of the Nigerian Agricultural Land Development Authority.

 

In the energy sector, Professor Almustapha Alhaji Aliyu from Sokoto State was appointed Managing Director of NNPC Gas Marketing Limited, a vital arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company.

The Presidency stated that the appointments are part of a broader strategy to bring in experienced leadership and reinforce institutional capacity. The new officeholders are expected to resume immediately and contribute to the realization of the administration’s development agenda.
