TINUBU APPROVES LAGOS-IBADAN ROAD RECONSTRUCTION, LEGACY HIGHWAY EXPANSION

President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the expansion of the Legacy Highway as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and ease traffic congestion in the Southwest region.

The approval was announced on Friday by the Minister of Works, Mr. Dave Umahi, who described the projects as critical to enhancing connectivity, boosting economic activities, and improving the quality of life for residents.

“The President is committed to fixing our roads and providing world-class infrastructure. The reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the expansion of the Legacy Highway will significantly reduce travel time and enhance safety,” Umahi stated.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway reconstruction will involve widening the road, improving drainage systems, and installing modern streetlights. The Legacy Highway expansion will focus on adding lanes and upgrading interchanges to accommodate increasing traffic volume.

The projects are expected to be executed through public-private partnerships and will create thousands of jobs during construction and maintenance phases. The government has assured that quality standards will be strictly monitored to ensure durability and value for money.

Stakeholders in the transportation sector have welcomed the President’s approval, noting that the Lagos-Ibadan corridor is one of the busiest and most economically important routes in the country. Improved infrastructure on this axis is expected to boost trade, reduce accidents, and support the movement of goods and people.

The Federal Government has allocated substantial funds for the projects and is working with relevant agencies to ensure timely completion. The Minister of Works said the projects align with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s focus on infrastructure development and economic growth.

Residents and road users along the corridors have expressed optimism that the reconstruction and expansion will bring much-needed relief from the perennial traffic congestion and poor road conditions they have endured for years.
