President Bola Tinubu has congratulated elder statesman and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Samuel Falae, on his 88th birthday.

Falae, who also served as Minister of Finance and co-founded the National Democratic Coalition, turned 88 on Monday, September 21, 2026.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Falae as one of the Nigerians whose contributions to the country’s political and democratic development earned him an enduring place in Nigeria’s history.

The President commended Falae’s public service, particularly his roles as SGF and Minister of Finance, as well as his contributions to public administration and economic development.

Tinubu also praised Falae’s involvement in the pro-democracy movement and his efforts to restore democratic rule during Nigeria’s military era.

He described Falae as a patriot whose commitment to the country was reflected in his service and his role in the NADECO movement.

According to Tinubu, Falae and other pro-democracy activists defended constitutional rule and citizens’ rights while advocating for the restoration of democratic governance.

The President said their sacrifices remained a reminder of the responsibility to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and promote national development.

Tinubu prayed for Falae to enjoy good health, wisdom and renewed strength to continue contributing to the country.

Falae was among the prominent figures associated with NADECO following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and the subsequent struggle for the restoration of democratic rule.
