President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will preside over the 67th Ordinary Session of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government today, June 22, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The summit also marks the conclusion of his two-year tenure as Chairman of ECOWAS.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the high-level gathering will focus on strengthening regional economic ties, addressing security concerns, and promoting economic collaboration among ECOWAS member nations.

In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, confirmed that the meeting will include the election of a new ECOWAS Chairman as President Tinubu's tenure comes to an end.

Leaders from across West Africa will convene at the summit to deliberate on key regional issues, including democratic governance, regional stability, and strategies for re-engaging Sahel countries that have withdrawn from the bloc.

Ahead of the summit, President Tinubu hosted the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), which focused on boosting trade and investment across the region. The event was attended by several West African presidents, including those of Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Senegal, The Gambia, Benin, Togo, and Guinea-Bissau.

WAES aimed to produce actionable outcomes to accelerate the region’s integration agenda—considered vital for ensuring peace, stability, and economic growth in West Africa.
