TINUBU MAINTAINS STRONG BACKING IN THE NORTH – APC CHIEFTAIN
Ayo Oyalowo, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asserted that President Bola Tinubu continues to enjoy significant support across northern Nigeria, contrary to claims made by some political elites.
During an appearance on Politics Today, a political program aired on Channels Television on Thursday, Oyalowo dismissed suggestions that President Tinubu’s support in the North has waned ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Tinubu has no issues with the North. The region is well represented in his administration. At present, several strategic positions are held by Northerners,” he stated.
He cited the recent appointment of the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), who hails from Kano State, as evidence of northern inclusion in Tinubu's government.
Oyalowo added that criticisms from certain quarters stem from personal disappointment over unmet expectations rather than genuine political concern.
Highlighting the positive impact of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), he referenced viral videos of students in Sokoto and Bauchi expressing gratitude after their school fees were paid through the initiative.
“That video wasn’t from Ogbomoso or Lagos; it came from Sokoto. Those were real students showing appreciation to Tinubu for settling their tuition,” he noted.
He criticized some Nigerians for concentrating solely on the economic challenges facing the country while ignoring the progress being made in various sectors.
Oyalowo also pointed out that northern governors have publicly acknowledged and praised the president’s developmental efforts in the region.
“Have you listened to the governor of Katsina? Or the governor of Kaduna? These are current leaders in the North who are updating their people about Tinubu’s contributions,” he added.
Although the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has continued to voice criticism, Oyalowo insisted that the general populace in the North remains supportive of President Tinubu.
