President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism and banditry, assuring Nigerians that security forces are working tirelessly to restore peace across the country.

The President pledged on Wednesday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while hosting leaders of the Ogbia community in Bayelsa State. He acknowledged the scale of Nigeria’s security challenges but insisted that progress is being made through sustained military and security operations.

“Men and women of our armed forces are fighting very hard to bring peace and stability to the country, and I can guarantee you we will win,” Tinubu said, noting that arrests and neutralisation of criminal elements were ongoing despite the persistence of violent attacks.

Beyond security, Tinubu assured the Niger Delta delegation that his government would continue to prioritise development in oil-producing communities. He admitted that past administrations failed to adequately cater to the region but promised that his government would pursue meaningful engagement and long-term progress.

The President praised the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), particularly its Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, for what he described as improved project delivery and positive impact on communities. He cited initiatives such as solar-powered street lighting, which have boosted economic activity and improved safety in previously underserved areas.

Tinubu also promised to address ecological challenges like erosion and to review key infrastructure requests, including the construction of a bridge he said would stimulate economic growth and regional development.

On the economy, the President said Nigeria had emerged from a difficult period and was now on a recovery path. He stressed that the focus of his administration was to ensure that economic improvements translate into real benefits for ordinary Nigerians.

Leaders of the Ogbia community, speaking through their representative, Robert Enogha, pledged political support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. They praised the President for appointing Ogbuku as NDDC Managing Director and invited Tinubu to visit their community, describing the invitation as a symbol of unity and appreciation.

The meeting highlighted the government’s dual focus on tackling insecurity while advancing development in the Niger Delta, as Tinubu seeks to strengthen trust and cooperation with local communities nationwide.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
