TINUBU NOMINATES TEGBE AS NEW POWER MINISTER
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally asked the Nigerian Senate to confirm the appointment of Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power.
The request was conveyed in a letter read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who subsequently referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for consideration.
Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down earlier this year to pursue the Oyo State governorship race ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the presidency, the move is part of efforts to strengthen ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector, improve electricity supply stability, and attract sustainable investments.
Tegbe, a seasoned fiscal and economic expert, brings over three decades of experience across both public and private sectors. He has previously held key roles, including Senior Partner at KPMG Africa and Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership.
He has also contributed to national policy development, notably chairing the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee and participating in reforms within Nigeria’s electricity sector.
If confirmed, Tegbe is expected to play a critical role in advancing the administration’s energy goals and addressing long-standing challenges in power generation and distribution across the country.
