ADC Says Tinubu Is Out of Touch With Reality as Nigerians Face Economic Hardship

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing the president of being out of touch with the realities facing Nigerians amid persistent economic hardship.

The party’s remarks reflect growing political debate over the impact of government economic policies on households and businesses across the country. Many Nigerians continue to grapple with the rising cost of food, transportation, electricity and other essential goods and services.

The ADC’s criticism centres on concerns that the economic difficulties confronting ordinary citizens are not being adequately addressed. For many households, rising living expenses have made it increasingly difficult to meet basic needs, while businesses continue to face high operating costs and uncertainty.

Since taking office, Tinubu’s administration has introduced major economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange system. The government has argued that these measures are necessary to address structural problems, improve public finances and establish a stronger foundation for long-term economic growth.

However, the reforms have also contributed to significant short-term pressures on consumers and businesses, intensifying public debate about their implementation and the support available to vulnerable Nigerians.

The ADC’s statement adds to calls from opposition parties for the government to do more to ease the burden on citizens. Such demands have included measures to improve access to affordable food, create employment opportunities, support small businesses and strengthen social protection programmes.

For the administration, the challenge remains demonstrating that its economic policies can deliver tangible improvements in living standards. Economic growth and improved government revenue are important, but many Nigerians will judge progress by whether their incomes can cover essential expenses and whether employment opportunities are expanding.

As political discussions continue ahead of future elections, economic hardship is likely to remain a major issue for the government and opposition parties alike.
