TINUBU RECEIVES MADAGASCAR PRESIDENT RANDRIANIRINA AT ASO ROCK
President Bola Tinubu is currently holding closed-door talks with Madagascar’s President, Michaël Randrianirina, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Randrianirina arrived at the State House at about 2:57 p.m. on Monday and was welcomed with ceremonial honours by bagpipers from the Presidential Brigade of Guards.
The Malagasy leader was received by a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, before proceeding to a private meeting with Tinubu.
The visit marks Randrianirina’s first official trip to Nigeria since assuming office in October 2025, following the political transition that ended the administration of former Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina.
It is also regarded as the first officially recorded visit by a Malagasy head of state to Nigeria.
Reports indicate that discussions between both leaders are expected to focus on regional security, agricultural cooperation, and climate change challenges affecting both countries.
The meeting comes weeks after Tinubu and Randrianirina briefly met during the Africa Forward Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya.
Since assuming office, Randrianirina has increased diplomatic engagements across Africa and recently expressed Madagascar’s interest in securing partnership status with the BRICS bloc.
More details from the meeting are expected later.
