President Bola Tinubu has said Nigeria has moved beyond the difficult phase of his administration’s economic reforms and is entering what he described as an “age of prosperity.”

Tinubu made the declaration in his 66th Independence Day address on Thursday, saying the government’s focus had shifted from correcting economic imbalances to delivering broader prosperity for Nigerians.

He said the next phase would prioritise reducing the cost of living, creating productive jobs, increasing domestic production and improving living standards.

The President said the government would seek to reduce the cost of producing and moving goods, particularly food and other essential items.

He also highlighted plans to support businesses with access to credit, improve infrastructure and strengthen opportunities for young Nigerians.

Tinubu said the government had undertaken difficult reforms because of economic challenges that had accumulated over several years.

He acknowledged that the adjustment had been difficult for many Nigerians but said the reforms had laid the foundation for the next stage of economic development.

The President said the government’s objective was to ensure that economic growth translated into improved conditions for households, workers and businesses.

He urged Nigerians to remain committed to the country’s development as his administration enters what he described as a new phase focused on shared prosperity.
