TINUBU URGES REPS TO PASS NDDC 2026 BUDGET
President Bola Tinubu has urged the House of Representatives to consider and pass the Niger Delta Development Commission’s 2026 statutory budget proposal.
The President made the request in a letter dated August 20, 2026, addressed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, transmitting the proposed budget for legislative consideration.
According to Tinubu, the budget was prepared by the Minister of Niger Delta Development in line with Section 121 of the Nigerian Constitution and is based on the NDDC’s projected revenue and expenditure.
The proposal is also aligned with the Federal Government’s fiscal and development policies, including the Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as the 2024–2026 Economic Recovery Growth Plan and key assumptions behind the 2026 Appropriation Act.
Tinubu said the NDDC’s major priorities under the proposal include youth empowerment, electricity and energy supply, education, industrial and enterprise development, healthcare, security and agriculture.
He said the priorities were designed to address longstanding development challenges in the Niger Delta while creating more economic opportunities for residents and helping to reduce poverty.
The NDDC, established under its enabling law, is responsible for implementing development projects and programmes across oil-producing communities in the region. Its interventions include roads, healthcare, education, water projects, skills acquisition and agricultural initiatives.
The President urged the House to give the proposed budget prompt consideration and passage.
The 2026 NDDC statutory budget will now undergo legislative scrutiny, including review by relevant committees of the House of Representatives, before further action is taken on its passage.
