President Bola Tinubu has paid a visit to the victims who survived last Friday’s deadly attack in the Yelwata community, located in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

Upon his arrival in Makurdi, the state capital, around 12:58 p.m. on Wednesday via the Tactical Air Command of the Nigerian Air Force Base, the President proceeded directly to the hospital where the injured are receiving treatment.

Following the hospital visit, President Tinubu moved to the new Banquet Hall at the Benue State Government House, where he is expected to hold a meeting with key stakeholders in response to the ongoing violence and loss of lives in the region.

In light of the President’s visit, the Benue State Government declared a public holiday.

The presidential visit comes in the wake of a brutal assault on Yelwata, which claimed the lives of more than 200 people and left many others wounded.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers launched the assault early in the morning, dividing into three groups to strike the community from different directions. Residents described how the gunmen took turns firing their weapons to create chaos and hinder local security responses.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
