In a candid video shared on her TikTok page, reality TV star and disc jockey Tolanibaj has urged legendary Afrobeats artists, including the likes of Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, to consider retirement if they feel their music no longer resonates with fans.

Her comments come amid widespread criticisms of the recent releases from these iconic artists, with many fans and social media commentators expressing disappointment in their new music. Tolanibaj emphasized that there is no shame in stepping away from the music scene if an artist's creative spark has dimmed.

“Why is it that Nigerian artists don’t know when to evolve or completely transition into business?” Tolanibaj asked in her video message. She pointed out that if an artist’s sound no longer connects with their audience, it might be time to explore new avenues.

The DJ and reality star suggested that artists who have already built a strong legacy should not feel compelled to continue releasing music that may dilute their brand. Instead, she encouraged them to pivot into business or become music executives, drawing inspiration from the likes of Olamide and Don Jazzy, who have successfully transitioned into leadership roles within the music industry.

“There’s no shame in retiring. Stop dropping nonsense music to water down your brand, especially if your catalogue in the past is A1,” Tolanibaj added. “I would rather you not even drop music at all and become a lifestyle influencer.”

Her remarks have sparked a wave of discussion, with many agreeing that some veteran Afrobeats artists may benefit from stepping back to preserve their legacies. While the pressure to stay relevant in an ever-evolving music scene is immense, Tolanibaj’s message highlights the importance of knowing when to gracefully evolve into new opportunities.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
