Sabitiyu Olayemi, the grandmother of late gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has alleged that he rarely supported her financially and said she wants him buried at his house rather than in a cemetery.

Speaking in an interview shared on social media on Monday, she said she helped care for the singer and his mother before he moved to Lagos. According to her, she had not seen him for more than five years.

She recalled visiting him during his school years and said he later visited her with his wife and first child. However, she claimed their contact became limited over time.

The grandmother said she once arranged for someone to help her call him. During the conversation, she questioned why he had not checked on her, and he reportedly explained that work had kept him busy.

According to her, he subsequently sent ₦10,000 on about three occasions but did not continue the financial support. She also alleged that she received no assistance from him for medication or other medical expenses.

Despite her complaints, she expressed deep sorrow over his death, saying he remained her child and that losing him was painful.

On the burial arrangements, she insisted that the singer should be laid to rest at his own house. She opposed both a cemetery burial and a burial beside his late mother.

Her comments come amid differing views within the family. The singer’s father, Muniru Adekunle Olayemi, had expressed a preference for burial either at the house his son built or beside his mother in Osun State.

His father also disputed reports that the singer was 44, saying he died at 34.

Meanwhile, Lawal Ademola, who identified himself as the singer’s uncle, has called for an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
