A quiet farming community in Kukurpu village, Kwajaffa District, Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State, has been thrown into deep mourning after a heartbreaking incident claimed the lives of four children from the same family.

The tragedy occurred on Thursday morning, September 4, 2025, when neighbours raised alarm after being unable to reach the family’s head, 35-year-old Muktari Idrisa, despite repeated phone calls.

According to reports, a neighbour, Bukar Musa, eventually contacted Idrisa’s wife, Maimuna, who weakly revealed that everyone in the house was gravely ill and unable to stand.

When neighbours rushed to the home, they discovered Idrisa, his wife, and their four children lying unconscious. The children were identified as:

Idrisa Muktari (male)

Hauwa Muktari (female, 9 years)

Binta Muktari (female, 6 years)

Saidu Muktari (male, 1 year)

Medical personnel and security operatives quickly arrived at the scene, but doctors confirmed all four children dead on arrival, while the parents were rushed to hospital and are currently responding to treatment.

The bodies of the children were deposited at the hospital morgue before being released to relatives for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Authorities say the cause of the tragedy remains unclear, though the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri has launched a full investigation.

The shocking incident has left residents of Kukurpu devastated, with many struggling to come to terms with the sudden and mysterious loss of young lives.
