A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken residents of the Agbarho community in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

On Thursday night, around 10:00 pm, a young man identified only as Emem allegedly raped and murdered his own mother at their family home on Eferemor Street, near Ovie House.

According to eyewitness accounts, Emem, who has long shown signs of mental instability, attacked his mother shockingly and brutally before fleeing the scene. When his younger brother returned home later that night, he discovered their mother lying lifeless in a pool of blood. Disturbingly, she was found unclothed, with clear evidence that she had been sexually assaulted before being killed.

Community members revealed that this was not the first time Emem had displayed troubling behavior. On an earlier occasion, he had allegedly stripped himself naked and disturbingly called out to his mother, demanding intimacy. Sadly, this time, the worst fears of the family and neighbors came true.

Police operatives have since evacuated the victim’s body and deposited it at a morgue in Agbarho. However, the suspect, Emem, is still on the run. Authorities are now intensifying efforts to track him down.

The incident has left the Agbarho community in deep shock, with many describing it as one of the most horrifying crimes the area has ever witnessed. Calls are growing louder for increased awareness around mental health issues and for families to seek timely intervention when relatives show dangerous behavioral patterns.

As of the time of this report, Delta State Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, has not responded to calls or messages regarding the case.

This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for mental health support systems and stronger community vigilance to prevent such heartbreaking occurrences in the future.
