A yet-to-be-identified woman tragically jumped off the Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon near the UNILAG waterfront on Thursday at 3 PM, sparking shock and concern among Lagos residents.

Despite swift intervention by marine police officers stationed nearby, the woman was recovered unresponsive. She was later confirmed dead by UNILAG medical doctors in the presence of officers from the Sabo Police Division.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, provided details on the timeline of events.

"Today, March 13, 2025, at about 1600 hours, an unidentified woman reportedly jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water near the UNILAG waterfront at approximately 1500 hours. She was recovered at the University of Lagos shore slipway by a team of marine police officers stationed in the area. Despite their efforts, she was confirmed dead."

Hundeyin further stated that the body has been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.

This tragic event adds to the growing concerns over mental health and suicide prevention in Lagos. Authorities urge individuals facing distress to seek help through available mental health support channels.
