Abia Road Crash Claims Life of Young Girl, Several Others Injured
A tragic road accident occurred on Tuesday along the Isiala Ngwa Ntigha axis of the Aba–Port Harcourt expressway, claiming the life of a young female child and leaving several passengers injured.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Abia State confirmed that an 18-seater commercial bus, reportedly traveling from Ebonyi State, was involved in the crash around 11 a.m.
According to the FRSC Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, the accident left one female child dead and injured 14 others — nine male adults and five female adults.
Speaking to Essential News, Ezeoma said:
“It involved a commercial bus with 18 passengers. Nine male adults and five female adults were injured, while one female child died as confirmed on reaching the hospital.”
Emergency responders, including the Abia State Emergency Response Team led by Faithwin Obioma Analaba and FRSC officers, arrived quickly at the scene. They rescued the victims and transported them to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
While the official cause of the crash is still under investigation, an eyewitness and fellow transporter, Chukwudi Gideon, claimed that the bus suffered a sudden tyre failure, lost control, veered off the road, and somersaulted into the bush.
This heartbreaking incident serves as yet another reminder of the dangers of road travel and the importance of vehicle maintenance and road safety.
