TRANSFER DEADLINE: NIGERIAN PLAYERS WHO SECURED MOVES IN EUROPE THIS SUMMER
The 2025 summer transfer window officially closed on Monday night across Europe’s top five leagues – the Premier League, Serie A, LaLiga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.
It was a busy window for several Nigerian football stars, with some securing new clubs while others were unable to finalize moves before the deadline.
Here’s a breakdown of how Nigerian players fared:
Players Who Sealed Transfers
Samuel Chukwueze – The winger left AC Milan to join Fulham on loan. He will wear the number 19 shirt and link up with fellow Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.
Victor Boniface – The striker completed a season-long loan move from Bayer Leverkusen to Werder Bremen, with both clubs sharing his wages.
Tolu Arokodare – After finishing as top scorer in Belgium with 21 goals for Genk, the forward signed a four-year deal with Wolves, with an option for an extra year.
Wilfred Ndidi – The midfielder left Leicester City to join Besiktas in Turkey on a three-year contract.
Victor Osimhen – The Super Eagles talisman made headlines with a €75m move to Galatasaray, signing a four-year deal worth €15m annually. He has already scored twice for the Turkish champions.
Moses Simon – The winger moved from Nantes to Paris FC in Ligue 1 for €7m, signing a three-year contract.
Players Who Missed Out on Transfers
Frank Onyeka – Despite interest from Crystal Palace, the Brentford midfielder remained with the Bees.
Kelechi Iheanacho – The Sevilla forward came close to joining Samsunspor in Turkey, but the deal fell through, leaving him at Sevilla.
⚽ Expert’s Take
Audu Ojo, head coach of FC Dawaki Rangers, praised the players who secured fresh opportunities, especially Chukwueze and Boniface, who struggled with form last season.
“It is encouraging to see Nigerian players getting new clubs where they can play regularly,” Ojo said. “For those who didn’t move, my advice is to stay fit and keep working hard. The January transfer window is not far away.”
With the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa around the corner, these moves could not have come at a better time for Nigeria’s stars.
