Bundesliga side Mainz are reportedly considering a move to bring Taiwo Awoniyi back to the club in the January transfer window, according to Kicker.

Currently at the bottom of the Bundesliga table, Mainz are seeking additional firepower upfront.

Awoniyi previously played for Mainz during the 2019/20 season on loan from Liverpool, scoring once in 12 league appearances.

A return would see the Nigerian striker reunite with coach Urs Fischer, who played a key role in Awoniyi’s permanent transfer to Union Berlin from Liverpool in 2021.

At Nottingham Forest, Awoniyi is currently behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus in the pecking order, having made just five league appearances for the Tricky Trees this season.
