Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji could be set for a shock move to Galatasaray, where he may line up alongside Nigerian star Victor Osimhen this summer.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Turkish giants have already approached Manchester City over a possible deal for the Switzerland international. Galatasaray also opened talks with Akanji’s representatives as they try to secure personal terms.

The Turkish champions are determined to strengthen their squad before the summer transfer window closes and see Akanji as a perfect fit to bolster their defence.

However, the 30-year-old still needs to make a final decision on his future at the Etihad Stadium. He was an unused substitute in City’s 4-0 Premier League opener against Bournemouth, highlighting the fierce competition he faces with John Stones, Rúben Dias, and Abdukodir Khusanov all ahead of him in Pep Guardiola’s plans.

Akanji’s potential move to Istanbul would reunite him with familiar Champions League-level competition and add further star power to a Galatasaray side looking to make a deep impact in Europe this season.

For now, the ball is in Akanji’s court — and all eyes are on whether he chooses to continue fighting for his place at City or embrace a new challenge alongside Osimhen in Turkey.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
