Troops of the Nigerian Army, under Operation HADIN KAI, have ambushed a Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province logistics convoy in Borno State, killing 21 insurgents during operations in Sojiri and Kayamla communities.

The army explained that the operation followed intelligence indicating that over 100 Boko Haram fighters had gathered in the area to launch attacks on nearby communities and transport supplies to their strongholds.

“Acting on this intelligence, troops, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes, intercepted the terrorists around noon,” the Nigerian Army said in a statement on Sunday. “A firefight ensued, during which the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking attack, but our troops responded effectively, dominating the engagement.”

Subsequent operations in the forest confirmed the deaths of 21 insurgents, while others are believed to have escaped with gunshot injuries. Recovered items included bicycles, assorted food, clothing, drugs, medical supplies, torchlights, and various weapons and ammunition.

Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North East), said follow-up operations are ongoing to determine additional casualties and recover more items.

The army emphasized that the operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led joint security efforts in disrupting terrorist networks and their logistics.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
