Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, working alongside local vigilante group Askara, successfully neutralised a bandit during a foiled attempt to abduct students at the College of Science and Health Technology, Tsafe, in Zamfara State.

The incident occurred late at night when suspected armed bandits tried to infiltrate the school premises, reportedly with the intention of kidnapping students.

According to security sources, the troops and local vigilantes quickly responded to the threat, engaging the attackers in a gun duel. During the confrontation, one bandit was neutralised, while the others fled into nearby bushes.

Due to the darkness and the urgency of the operation, the troops and vigilantes were unable to immediately recover the weapon of the neutralised suspect.

Authorities have since intensified patrols around the area to prevent further attacks and reassure both residents and students.

Security experts noted that the swift action of the troops and local vigilantes prevented what could have been a major kidnapping incident. Bandit attacks and attempted abductions of students have been a recurring challenge in parts of northwestern Nigeria, prompting closer collaboration between security forces and community-based vigilante groups.
