TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED SUICIDE BOMBER, RECOVER IED MATERIALS IN BORNO
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected suicide bomber and recovered materials believed to be intended for the manufacture of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Abubakar Mustapha, was apprehended on Monday, December 29, by troops of the 152 Task Force Battalion, working alongside other security agencies, during an operation in Bama Local Government Area.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, Lt Col Sani Uba.
According to the statement, Mustapha was intercepted at the Banki Central Mosque, where he was found in possession of already primed IED components, indicating preparations for a possible imminent attack.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a native of Bama LGA and had access to additional materials linked to terrorist activities.
He is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to uncover his sponsors, collaborators, and possible connections to terrorist networks operating within the region.
Lt Col Uba reaffirmed that troops of JTF NE Operation Hadin Kai remain committed to aggressive patrols, intelligence-driven operations, and sustained security presence to prevent attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure.
He also called on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
The military further assured residents of the North East that the morale and operational efficiency of troops remain high, reiterating its resolve to protect lives and property across the region.
The arrest comes days after a suicide bombing at Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, where five worshippers were killed and 35 others injured during evening prayers on December 24.
