Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have recovered two AK-47 rifles and other items after repelling an attack during an intelligence-led operation in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The operation took place on October 26, 2026, according to a statement signed by the Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu.

The military said troops acted on intelligence that armed individuals allegedly posing as herders had crossed into the area from Nasarawa State.

On reaching the location, the troops came under gunfire. They returned fire and forced the attackers to flee, with no casualties recorded among the soldiers.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, four empty magazines, eight calves, three mobile phones and a National Identification Number document. The recovery of the document does not, by itself, establish its owner’s involvement.

The Force Commander, Major General Moses Kolo Gara, praised the troops for their vigilance and response.

He urged them to maintain close cooperation with local communities and sustain intelligence-led operations across the area.

Gara also thanked residents for providing information and encouraged them to continue reporting suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
