TROOPS, VIGILANTES GUN DOWN BANDITS IN PLATEAU, RECOVER RIFLES AND AMMO
Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have teamed up with local vigilantes to strike a major blow against bandits in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
During a carefully planned operation, security forces killed two bandits and recovered a cache of weapons, preventing further attacks in the area.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the operation was launched after intelligence revealed that some bandit leaders were distributing weapons stolen from local vigilantes during an earlier raid in Odare Forest on July 6.
Acting swiftly, the troops set up an ambush along the routes between Dutsen Zaki and Odare Forest. At around 1:30 p.m. on July 14, they encountered the bandits. In the brief but intense clash, two of the criminals were gunned down, while others fled into the bush, likely nursing bullet wounds.
A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, six magazines loaded with 27 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a Boxer motorcycle. All recovered items are now in military custody.
Makama noted that troops have intensified follow-up operations to track down the fleeing bandits and dismantle their networks.
This successful joint effort by the military and local vigilantes highlights the power of collaboration in tackling insecurity and protecting communities in Plateau State.
