TRUTH BEHIND SHOCKING SMOKING SCHOOLGIRL VIDEO — NOT FROM NIGERIA!
The Nigeria Police Force has addressed a viral video that has been making the rounds on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, showing a young schoolgirl smoking a substance suspected to be cannabis while being encouraged by a group of her peers.
Contrary to claims that the video originated in Nigeria, the police have confirmed it is not from the country.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that initial investigations suggest the video likely originated in Zimbabwe.
According to the statement, “The Nigeria Police Force has noted a disturbing video currently trending on WhatsApp and social media, showing a schoolgirl smoking what appears to be cannabis while classmates cheer her on.
“The footage initially sparked public concern among Nigerian parents and educators, who feared it was recorded in a Nigerian school — highlighting growing concerns over youth drug abuse and misconduct.”
However, further analysis disproved those assumptions.
The police explained that the voices in the video include both English and Shona — a language widely spoken in Zimbabwe and parts of southern Africa — with no trace of Nigerian languages or accents.
Additionally, digital clues helped trace the video’s origin. The police said the video first appeared on the Instagram account @rusape_celebs_tv, which operates out of Rusape, a town in Zimbabwe. The accompanying caption was also written in Shona.
Based on these findings, the Nigeria Police advised the public to be cautious and avoid sharing unverified content online, warning that doing so can cause unnecessary panic and harm.
“Sharing unverified content can seriously affect individuals, organisations, and entire communities,” Adejobi warned. “We urge the public to be responsible and discerning, especially when it comes to sensitive material.”
