The Oyo State Police Command on Friday announced the arrest of two individuals involved in illegal transborder ammunition trafficking. The disclosure was made in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.

According to Ayanlade, the suspects, identified as Isiaka Dare, 35, and Taiwo Ayodabo, 33, both from Tede, were apprehended in Saki town. They allegedly trafficked ammunition from the Republic of Benin into Nigeria through unauthorized border routes.

Ayanlade explained, “In line with our commitment to curbing illegal arms movement, operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit at the Saki Operation Base, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of these suspected international gun runners.

“During the operation, operatives recovered 105 packets of pump-action cartridges, each containing 25 cartridges, totaling 2,625 rounds. The ammunition was concealed in four jerry cans. Additionally, two unregistered motorcycles, believed to have been used for transporting and distributing the illegal arms, were seized.

“The suspects have confessed to their involvement and are currently assisting investigators in uncovering the broader transnational network and identifying other accomplices engaged in the illicit trade.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
