A tragic incident occurred Tuesday afternoon in Ilorin’s GRA area when a portion of the old fence at Kwara Hotels collapsed, resulting in the deaths of two construction workers and leaving a third critically injured.

The accident happened amid ongoing renovation works at the historic hotel, which is being refurbished under the Kwara State Government’s infrastructure upgrade initiative.

According to eyewitnesses, the workers were near the fence when it suddenly crumbled, burying them under debris. All three victims were swiftly taken to a private hospital on Unity Road. Medical personnel confirmed that two succumbed to their injuries, while the third is currently receiving treatment in intensive care.

Speaking on the incident during a local radio interview, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, described the event as deeply unfortunate.

"A section of the structure undergoing renovation collapsed. Three workers sustained serious injuries. Sadly, two of them didn’t survive despite receiving immediate medical attention, while one remains alive,” Ajakaye said.

He noted that the victims' families have been informed, though their identities have not yet been made public.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
