A tragic accident on the Ringim-Kano Road in Jigawa State has claimed the lives of two people and left ten others injured. The crash, which occurred around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, involved two Volkswagen Golf cars and was blamed on speeding and wrongful overtaking.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Dutse, Umar Mas’ud, all 13 passengers were from Bareda village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The victims were quickly attended to by FRSC rescue teams who rushed the injured to nearby medical facilities.
In a notable display of honesty and professionalism, FRSC personnel also recovered a total of ₦2,166,700, belonging to one of the deceased victims and a survivor, during the rescue operation.
“It is my pleasure to inform the general public that our personnel were involved in a rescue operation in the Ringim area on Thursday. During the exercise, the sum of ₦2,166,700 was recovered,” Mr. Mas’ud said.
He added that after thorough investigation, and with the cooperation of the Divisional Police Officer, Abdullahi Ibrahim, the money was immediately handed over to the families of the victims.
Mas’ud praised the integrity of his team, highlighting this as a testament to the FRSC’s commitment to transparency and public trust. He also used the opportunity to warn motorists against excessive speeding and dangerous overtaking, pointing out that these remain leading causes of fatal road crashes across the country.
As families in Kaduna come to terms with the devastating loss, this incident serves as yet another sobering reminder of why caution and strict adherence to road safety rules cannot be overemphasized.
