TWO INJURED AS POLICE FOIL KIDNAP ATTEMPT IN IBADAN
Two people sustained gunshot injuries after police operatives foiled an attempted kidnapping in the old Kara area of Bodija, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.
According to the police, the attack happened on April 21, 2026, at about 7:50 p.m. when armed hoodlums reportedly stormed a Point of Sale (POS) shop in the area and opened fire.
Authorities said the swift response of police officers, working together with local hunters, successfully disrupted the operation and prevented what appeared to be a planned abduction.
During the confrontation, two people were struck by bullets. They were immediately rescued and taken to a medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding well.
The suspects reportedly fled the scene, prompting an intensive manhunt by security personnel.
Police said bush combing operations are currently ongoing across the area as efforts continue to track down and arrest the attackers.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State ordered the deployment of additional officers to vulnerable areas to strengthen security and prevent further criminal activity.
The command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, while investigations into the attempted kidnapping continue.
Residents were also urged to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements as security agencies intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
